| Belize-It in Placencia Village |
Placencia Village is located in southern Belize at the tip of a 16 mile long and 1/4 mile wide peninsula. In just the last decade, this sleepy fishing village of approximately 1200 in population has become a popular tourist destination. It is bordered by the beautiful Caribbean sea and beach to the east and the Placencia Lagoon, a Caribbean inlet, on its west. The village boasts of having the world's narrowest street, a distinction bestowed upon it by the Guinness Book of Records . The street was built when the village was accessable only by boat. Although the sidewalk street was not needed for transport of motor vehicles, it was imperative for a smaller non-motorized one, the wheelbarrow. Placencia Village is extremely convenient for tourists as it offers nearly all the shopping desired, activities, and wide variety of restaurants all within easy walking distance. No frequent taxis are needed, as everthing one needs or usually wants is so close. The village has an advantage over the more northern peninsula locations due to the variety of tours, groceries, restaurants and shops. |
